Temple Day!

This week was long since we didn't have pday till today, but we had the awesome opportunity to go to the temple this morning!! I love the temple, it just renews the spirit and ahhh... it's just so cute and small here inside the temple.

This week was pretty good! We had the awesome opportunity to meet with an English class student named Marie. It turns out she was pretty prepped to hear our message because her daughter is actually a member of our church in America! She was in Taipei a couple weeks ago and had been walking when she noticed an English flyer on the ground. She picked it up and saw  that two Elders had accidentally dropped it on the ground. She noticed that one was American and one was Taiwanese, she was so touched that someone from her own country had decided to serve a mission. She then came to our English class and now she's an investigator!

We were also able to give Yang Kai Qing a baptismal date! We are so excited for her!! She had previously not wanted baptism at all and was unsure of why she would since she only half believed in God. It turns out she had an awesome experience with prayer that had made her have more faith and really want to start reading the Book of Mormon and come to church. She had been walking at night when she got lost and she didn't have any cell service, she then remember prayer and decided to pray to Heavenly Father about what to do. She said that she felt calm afterwards and decided to keep walking and eventually she found her way home and her phone started working! She is so willing to keep commitments and try to see if our message is true!

We also just had Easter (although it's not really celebrated here), how awesome is that? Sometimes we forget the true meaning of Easter and we think of the Easter bunny or chocolate, but it's really about the resurrection of Christ. What does that mean to us? Because Christ was resurrected, we all too will be resurrected. Because Christ lives, during our hardest trials we will be able to rely on Him. Because He lives, death is not a sad thing and it is not a permanent ending! Here's the new video from our church for Easter all about the prince of peace AKA Christ! https://www.lds.org/media-library/video/topics/easter?lang=eng

Nonspiritual stuff:

This time last year I would have never thought I would be in Taiwan. Especially last night it hit me when Sister Chang and I went LA finding. We sat down to say a prayer when I noticed that this old man was riding on a ripstick in a continuous figure eight behind us or when we were riding our bikes and we saw a guy on a motor scooter with a special backpack that had a cat inside that I realize I am really in Taiwan.

So we went to Ximen last p-day and Sister Chang and I decided to it would be fun to buy these little iron man legos since they were pretty cheap. LO AND BEHOLD WHEN YOU TAKE OFF THE MASK OF IRON MAN...IT IS ANOTHER IRON MAN MASK. HOW.

總會大會 aka GENERAL CONFERENCE

Hello!! This weekend we got to watch General Conference! We are a week later since they have to translate it into Chinese subtitles. Conference is amazing and is an amazing opportunity to get revelation and get answers to questions! I really liked that the Saturday morning session was all about not having fear and always relying on Christ in our afflictions. I really liked the line where it talks about how we will never be alone in our afflictions if WE CHOOSE to walk with Him (Christ) and even in our moments of deepest grief, when life seems unfair, because of Christ everything shall be made right. I love everything is centered on CHOOSING to walk with Christ and CHOOSING to have Him help us. One of the coolest parts was from Elder Clayton, "I invite all members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to, each day, “come unto Christ, and be perfected in Him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness, … [that] through the shedding of the blood of Christ, … ye [may]become holy, without spot. I invite those who are not yet members of this Church to come and read the Book of Mormon and listen to the missionaries. Come and have faith and repent of your sins. Come and be baptized and receive the Holy Ghost. Come and live a happy, Christ-filled life. As you come to Him and keep His commandments, I promise that you can find peace and purpose in this often tumultuous mortal experience and “eternal life in the world to come.”

“For those who have experienced these truths and for whatever reason have wandered away, I invite you to come back. Come back today. Our Father and the Savior love you. “How amazing is this principle of always coming unto Christ?  When we replace our fears with faith and hope in Christ, even in our darkest times we are able to be surrounded by His love.

Miracles:

We had the opportunity to meet with this cute mother that Sister Austad and I had contacted on the street a couple weeks earlier. I had initially called her a couple weeks ago, but she hadn't had any time to really meet with us since she was traveling. I called her again and I asked if we could meet with her in the coming week and she was really willing to, then she was like "actually if you want we can meet earlier like on Saturday." Of course I was like...."YES WE WILL MEET YOU EARLIER, WHAT TIME WORKS BEST?" Thinking that because she was a mom of two really small children that she would most likely want to meet in the afternoon, but then she was like "If we do evening I can bring my husband and our children." So we ended up meeting with them in the evening and her whole family was able to come! It turns out she was super interested in the first lesson about Joseph Smith because in Hong Kong she had been looking at different churches and had forgotten about it since coming to Taiwan. It truly was a blessing and we are set up to meet with them all again after English class!

One of our investigators that had seen a polygamy film and was supposed to get baptized a couple weeks ago but not had actually picked up her phone and came to General Conference with her daughter! She set up with us this coming week, and a ward member who is her friend told us that it was a trial of her faith and she thinks that the experience Liu Jiemei had strengthened her testimony!

Nonspiritual moments:
So we went out yesterday to go visit some less actives and we met this lady, 陳小姐 (Ms. Chen), and she was talking to us and all of a sudden she looked at me and is like....do you speak Japanese? And I'm like no....and then she asks if I'm Japanese and I'm like....no.....my parents are from Hong Kong and she's like...yeah you should still learn Japanese. We then invited her to our English class and she was like, "okay I will go to learn English, and you should find a way to learn Japanese." Then the doorman was like yeah...you don't look like your parents are from Hong Kong, you look more Japanese. ONE DAY PEOPLE WILL BE ABLE TO FIGURE OUT WHO I REALLY AM.

These are all pictures from Tamsui, it was SO pretty.

Next week Monday is temple day so we won't have Pday until Wednesday. We are going shopping for summer clothes later today at Ximen. The weather is getting hot and humid here.

I Fean No Man

Hello from Xizhi! This week was a bit harder since we weren't in our area as much, but we were able to see some amazing miracles!

I learned a lot from companionship exchanges and a lot about just enjoying missionary work! It's been a bit harder since we had to drop a lot of investigators since they weren't progressing as much or they just weren't as interested. To combat this negative mindset, Sister Chang and I every morning at 7:20 am go to the mirror and we raise our hands up and say "WE FEAR NO MAN" for a good two minutes and then we go on with our day.

On Saturday we had the amazing opportunity to do temple tours, I love to do temple tours because we are always able to see some amazing miracles from it! My Aunt had told me two weeks ago about the two uncles that live in Taipei, this was amazing to hear because I had never known I had family here in Taiwan. It was a little odd at first contacting him since I had never met him and this was our first time talking. I had been praying and hoping I would stay close enough to Taipei to do temple tours so I could meet him and introduce him to our church, and when transfers came and I saw I was staying I about died. I immediately contacted him and invited him to our next scheduled temple tour and it turns out that it was perfect timing because he would be back from his business trip in Hong Kong just in time to make it. At first I was really worried about what type of tour to give him, but when we met with him it was almost like he was telling us what he wanted to learn! He wanted to know all about how our church was different than other churches and so we gave him the restoration tour. He was amazed since he had never heard any of these things before and was so curious about the Book of Mormon. It was a small seed planted, but I am so happy that he had the opportunity to hear about our church! We also had the opportunity to teach his Aunt at temple tours and we taught an amazing lesson on the plan of salvation. It is amazing to have the opportunity to teach family here in Taiwan!

Nonspiritual moments:

So we went to elephant mountain and by mountain I mean just A HUGE AMOUNT OF STAIRS. JUST STAIRS FOR DAYS. Sister Kim, Sister Lim, and I party it up on pdays now since we are all so close to each other.

We also had this amazing sushi and I just loved it. Like it was sooooo good.

Also people here are so scared of rain like I am not even kidding. They retreat back into the shadows when rain comes. They are so funny, one time it was sprinkling a little bit on our way to the church and when we were almost to the church we see this lady that had a plastic bag on her head to cover her hair from the rain.
