I dreamed a dream!

Taipei Temple

Hello Family!! This week was a bit shorter because well...I literally just emailed a couple of days ago but how are you all doing??? This week's weather has been such a whirlwind, it was super hot but then it was also super cold and had lots of rain?? There were days where I was like..omg how am I going to make it through summer and then other days where I am literally brushing rain out of my eyes while I bike. (Also, side note the umbrella I have from America literally could fit half a child underneath it like wow it is so small.)

Miracles:

This week we had the Sister Training Leaders in our area and they are literally so awesome!! I had the opportunity to go with Sister Yee and do some good quality finding. At first I was a bit scared since I was like ah man....got to pick the good areas...but we were able to get some really good potentials and some set ups for this week! We were riding to go finding in this one area by a less active member and it was raining like crazy, we pass by this mom and son who are on the side of the street trying to wave a taxi down when all of a sudden Sister Yee is like WAIT. Here I am riding like crazy, wiping the pouring rain out of my eyes when she wants to stop?!?!?! We turn around and we go contact her and we end up setting up with her this coming week!!

We also were also planning on visiting this less active member in our ward when we notice that there's this door open and so we stop and ask if anyone is home, a little girl ran up to the door and we asked if her parents were home. Her mom comes to the door and it turns out she had met with missionaries before but because she's super busy, they had stopped visiting her. She invited us in and we were able to talk to her about prayer and Christ. She has a firm belief that prayer and Christ can truly help her life!

Also, it really is amazing when you talk with everyone! I'm not talking about just saying good night or anything like that, but literally trying to have a conversation with people! Yesterday we went to go finding the way the STL's taught us which is basically you have an end goal of where you want to go (like going to see if a less active is home) and all along the way you FIND! So Sister Chang and I are walking to a less active's house we started contacting on the way. When it seemed like no one was going to say anything back to us a couple with a dog was in front of us and at first I was like aw man...let's see if they'll talk to us. So we started contacting them and the girl was super cool and was actually a Christian!! We also got to meet this really cute family (which usually the dad's always tell us goodbye before we can even really talk) who's children go to an English class where the teacher takes them to a nearby Christian school!!

Nonspiritual thoughts: Prepare yourselves this week

One day Sister Chang and I were in the mall contacting when we see these police officers who were blocking off the escalators and we are both like DID SOMEONE DIE IN THE ESCALATOR (Cause they were taking pictures and everything like that)? Do you want to know what it was? It was just a small kid shoe that had gotten stuck at the top. It looked like they were taking pictures of a crime scene though.

Also, when we were on exchanges Sister Yee and I decided to do some studies at a nearby family mart. We decided to contact this guy that was next to us at the end of our studies. We asked him how to say dream job (like what is your dream job), we think he misunderstood because he's like 60 and he is all of a sudden like "My dream job is to be surrounded by beautiful women" and Sister Yee and I are just like... definitely gave that contact straight to the Elders.

Yesterday we contacted this lady from Myanmar and it was getting close to the time where we would have to bike home, so Sister Chang and I are like we are so sorry but we really have to leave and the lady is like okay that's fine! so we are running to our lights and we start biking like crazy (but I am a bit ahead of Sister Chang so I went slowly across the cross walk) but on our way we pass by the lady we just contacted and since I am stopped waiting for Sister Chang, the lady starts reaching in her bag to give us something and I'm like....no it's really okay!! We don't need anything! But she keeps insisting on giving us this yogurt until finally she puts it on the back of my bike and like dashes away. So basically I rode home holding a pack of yogurt.

Also, the children here sometimes make my heart explode because they are so cute!! We were finding this Less Active when there was this little family at home across the street. We went to say hi when the daughter who was like two and half was super excited to see us. Here basically if they are younger than you they call you 姐姐 (jiejie, older sister). She called me 姐姐 and she's like trying to come and touch me but I was like SORRY, I CAN'T, I AM A MISSIONARY, I AM NOT ALLOWED TO HOLD YOU!! So I am like backing up but she keeps trying to hold my hand and like walk with me. My heart about died when we were just standing and she stood right in front of me with her back to me and wouldn't move and kept trying to hold my hand. She is so cute!  She kills me!

Love you ALL!

Temple Day!

This week was long since we didn't have pday till today, but we had the awesome opportunity to go to the temple this morning!! I love the temple, it just renews the spirit and ahhh... it's just so cute and small here inside the temple.

This week was pretty good! We had the awesome opportunity to meet with an English class student named Marie. It turns out she was pretty prepped to hear our message because her daughter is actually a member of our church in America! She was in Taipei a couple weeks ago and had been walking when she noticed an English flyer on the ground. She picked it up and saw  that two Elders had accidentally dropped it on the ground. She noticed that one was American and one was Taiwanese, she was so touched that someone from her own country had decided to serve a mission. She then came to our English class and now she's an investigator!

We were also able to give Yang Kai Qing a baptismal date! We are so excited for her!! She had previously not wanted baptism at all and was unsure of why she would since she only half believed in God. It turns out she had an awesome experience with prayer that had made her have more faith and really want to start reading the Book of Mormon and come to church. She had been walking at night when she got lost and she didn't have any cell service, she then remember prayer and decided to pray to Heavenly Father about what to do. She said that she felt calm afterwards and decided to keep walking and eventually she found her way home and her phone started working! She is so willing to keep commitments and try to see if our message is true!

We also just had Easter (although it's not really celebrated here), how awesome is that? Sometimes we forget the true meaning of Easter and we think of the Easter bunny or chocolate, but it's really about the resurrection of Christ. What does that mean to us? Because Christ was resurrected, we all too will be resurrected. Because Christ lives, during our hardest trials we will be able to rely on Him. Because He lives, death is not a sad thing and it is not a permanent ending! Here's the new video from our church for Easter all about the prince of peace AKA Christ! https://www.lds.org/media-library/video/topics/easter?lang=eng

Nonspiritual stuff:

This time last year I would have never thought I would be in Taiwan. Especially last night it hit me when Sister Chang and I went LA finding. We sat down to say a prayer when I noticed that this old man was riding on a ripstick in a continuous figure eight behind us or when we were riding our bikes and we saw a guy on a motor scooter with a special backpack that had a cat inside that I realize I am really in Taiwan.

So we went to Ximen last p-day and Sister Chang and I decided to it would be fun to buy these little iron man legos since they were pretty cheap. LO AND BEHOLD WHEN YOU TAKE OFF THE MASK OF IRON MAN...IT IS ANOTHER IRON MAN MASK. HOW.
